Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch

Sarah asks, so here is where that goofy phrase in my post below comes from.

When I was a kid, I noticed that whenver anybody said

Niagara Falls

my dad would say

Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch

My dad has a bizarre sense of hunor, so I assumed there was some faulty wiring somewhere in his head that triggered this strange response to the seemingly innocuous phrase "Niagara Falls".

It turns out that my dad's response is quoted from an old comedy sketch in which the phraes triggers a bad memory for a man who lost his lover to another guy at Niagara falls. The full response is something like

Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch...I gave him a punch like this, and another punch like that, etc etc

For a better account of this, take a look here or elsewhere google will take you.
